MEET COACH

John Cauthen

CERTIFIED PERSONAL TRAINER
“Growing up in sports and being involved in fitness has built the foundation of who I am today. The feeling of being a part of a team or watching the countless hours of training in the gym pay off, will always bring an overwhelming sense of purpose and belonging. With a world full of greedy, disingenuous, and under-skilled trainers, I strive to be the vessel that makes you fall in love with Health & Fitness and provide you with the skills to live a long healthy life.”

Get To Know Coach

I grew up in a small town in South Carolina where everybody knows everybody and a type of place where people leave their doors unlocked at night. I started playing baseball at the age of 5 and that continued on all throughout my youth and into high school. Being an only child, baseball gave me an outlet to be a part of a team and build foundational characteristics that have shaped me into the man I am today. I stopped pursuing baseball once I graduated high school and started to solely focus on my college career at Lander University where I graduated with my Bachelors in Exercise Science. Throughout my time in college I grew a passion for powerlifting after my dad took me to a local powerlifting meet near my hometown. Being a former powerlifter himself, he wanted to show me a new area to take my competitive spirit and boy was he right.

We believe that comfort is the Enemy. Pushing beyond comfort in the gym, will transform the rest of your life. As a member of the pursuit community you are committed to transforming your body and mind through sound coaching, training and nutrition.

Purpose & Pursuit

I quickly started to grow more and more in love with the sport and strength training in general, devoting countless hours researching and learning as much as I could. All I knew was that I wanted to push my body and be the best version of myself that I could be. During my Junior  year in college, me and my best friend founded the powerlifting team at Lander University which is still growing and expanding 5 years later. Now, I am currently a national level powerlifter who has been training competitively for 7 years. My best numbers in competition are a 512 lb Squat, 330 lb Bench Press and a 661 lb Deadlift at a body weight of 181 lbs. I am passionate about strength training but that is only the tip of the iceberg! During my time at Lander University, I completed 200 hours of internships working with multiple demographics to reach their fitness goals. From 8 year olds to 70 year olds, everyday people to elite athletes and anywhere in between. Whatever propels you to start your journey, I want to help you excel!
