Micah Maly

Licensed Physical Therapist & CERTIFIED PERSONAL TRAINER

I see my role as a physical therapist and strength coach first and foremost as an educator. I believe strongly in empowering and equipping clients. Client understanding and independence build confidence and will. These are your goals and your lifestyle. I’m here to partner with you in the way that suits your needs best. I am a movement specialist, and a listener. I believe your training should be individualized to your needs and support your goals. I believe that we should collaborate and communicate so that your training can be as specific and dialed-in as possible to build momentum toward your goals.

My first exposure to health, fitness, and strength training happened as a youth athlete. I discovered many things as a result of those experiences that still feed my desire to help guide others to a healthy lifestyle and positive, lifetime relationship with fitness. Unfortunately, as an unusually tall athlete compared to my peers, I felt pressure from coaches, teammates, and others to specialize and pursue basketball exclusively. At some point, my height ran out- I attended a division 1 university, where I would’ve been the shortest guy on the team. I realized I had become one-dimensional and would’ve been much better suited to remain a well-rounded multi-sport athlete. I realized there were sports I loved, that I’d either abandoned prematurely, or not gotten into at all (like baseball, football and track), that could’ve rounded out my athletic abilities and reduced my injury risk. Secondly, my youth weight training consisted, in retrospect, of very little education from strength coaches on things like safety and respect for the craft. Instead, high school weights was a never ending push to “test your maxes” without even a working understanding of weight room basics. I also experienced injuries that brought me in contact with a physical therapist who would become a mentor. There are two  previous generations of family are health providers in my family. All of this led to me pursuing what I now get to do every day: guiding others to strength training and fitness to support your lifestyle. Training for your goals. Crafting a lifestyle that supports your training. Preventing injury and building resiliency.

I grew up on the Front Range of Colorado, where I received my B.S. in Sport and Exercise Science in 2011 from the University of Northern Colorado with additional studies in Biology and Psychology. After an internship as a cancer exercise and rehabilitation specialist, I then attended the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha where I received my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree and was able to begin clinical practice in 2015.

I’ve practiced primarily in orthopedics and sports medicine since that time with clinical interests in amateur fitness and outdoor athletes, overhead athletes, and recent specialty in concussion rehabilitation. I incorporate strength and conditioning principles with nearly all clients of all ages, and I’m excited to bring those skills to the Pursuit family and surround myself with a team of elite trainers and like-minded coaches to equip our community with fitness for life! When I’m not in the gym working on my own goals or working with clients on theirs, I spend my free time with my incredible wife, Pursuit Nutrition Coach Tallia, and our two wonderful children. We love being outdoors and enjoying Colorado summers. You’ll also often find me loudly appreciating a baseball or college football game here and there!
